  1. Very nice. That one is more of a comic than I've seen you do in a while. I like it. You should consider a graphic novel. xoxo

  3. I love this! Where on earth do you find the time to create such amazing art?
Your kids will cherish these when they're grown.

  4. Thank you all for the kind comments.
@Emily: I would love to do a graphic novel or comic book. I am just not sure how to approach it. I've illustrated children's books for others before- but not in this manner and style. For me, it would bring a huge sense of satisfaction and accomplishment to bring an idea like that to fruition.

@Rachel: I too believe that they communicate. I can see it in the way that Violet suddenly stops what she is doing and walks over to Ruby, bends down and cocks her head to the side. And Ruby perks her ears up, inching forward with her nose and staring into Violet's eyes. Then Violet says, "Aww, s'ok." And hugs Ruby and walks away.

@Kristy: RE: finding time- Most of the actual illustrating is done during Violet's 2 hour nap(now it's down to 1 1/2 hours. I usually do the illustrations in stages. I try to come up with an idea the night before or earlier in the day. I work in layers. I try to complete the outline for the illustrations earlier in the day because that usually takes the least amount of time. Then, when she is napping, I fill in the color. If she wakes before I finish, I ply her with snacks and bribe one of the older kids to keep her busy for a little while. With this post, she woke up early. I cheated a lot by using the image of the dog 3 times (tilting her head in one frame).
